Swim Team Updates Week of June 8th

What an amazing week of swimming for our Gliders! We loved seeing everyone at practices this week!

Following the first meet, the Glider Games book donations standing were: 1st-Octopus, 2nd-Stingrays, 3rd-Sea Otters, 4th-Dolphins. This Monday’s swim meet is the last time to donate new Board Books, Children’s Books, and adult puzzle books (sudoku, crossword, etc.) to help support the Christmas mother! We can’t wait to see which team brings the most books! More info on meet specifics can be found below.

    Meet #2 Specifics:

For meet #2 against Hermitage, we are looking forward to seeing “Who will Rule the Pool” with our Heroes vs. villains meet theme!

Our check-in volunteer will be checking swimmers in starting at 4:45 PM. Warm ups will begin promptly at 5:15 pm for our swimmers.

Volunteers: Huge shout out to ALL the volunteers from last week’s swim meet. The meet ran so smoothly, and we couldn’t have accomplished that without you! Volunteer check in is at arrival while checking in swimmers. We have a few volunteer positions open for this week. Click here to sign up in SwimTopia.

    • Callers: 1 for 1st shift and 1 for 2nd shift
    • Check-in: Checking swimmers in as they arrive.
    • Concession Workers: Assist the team with selling items at our Glider Grill
    • Timers: 1 for 2nd shift

Families may come and set their tents up starting at 4:00 pm, however, we do need you to stay and help set up if you are coming to set your tent up early.

    Coach’s Corner

The Gliders are playing BINGO! on Thursday, June 12th from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM in the Community Center. Join the coaches for some team fun! If you are swimming prior to that, please make sure that you have a towel, so the floors do not get slippery.

    Helping in our Community

Glen Allen Community Center is sponsoring a birthday box via Worthdays for a local 18 year old young man who is in foster care. We want him to feel celebrated on his birthday! He will be celebrating with 1-5 other people at the group home where he is living.

18 is a big deal when you’re in foster care as you are able to decide whether or not to continue receiving voluntary foster care services (with conditions) or officially emancipate from the system. This is potentially our last opportunity to plant seeds of hope and remind them that regardless of what comes their way, they are worthy.

Please help us make his 18th birthday special! All UNWRAPPED gifts need to be dropped off by June 21st - see signup for details.

We hope our Gliders Fam will consider helping with this pool-wide community outreach!
