Glider Games!
Glider Families,
This season, we will kick off what we hope will become a new GACC tradition. Our coaching staff has been hard at work creating a summer long competition we’re calling… The Glider Games! This competition will begin TUESDAY, JUNE 13THat our first fun practice of the season.
The Glider Games will split swimmers into four teams (each led by a coach): The Stingrays, Dolphins, Octopuses, and Sea Otters. Each fun practice, swimmers will meet with their assigned team for attendance. Much like house games that several elementary schools have implemented, The Glider Games will be tallied through a summer long point system. The team with the most attendance at each fun practice will receive a point. Teams will then go head to head in fun competitions, contests, and relays. Afterwards, all teams will come together for pancakes and ribbons. All swimmers will also receive a Glider Games t-shirt this season! Other possibilities for points include (but aren’t limited to): swimmer costumes at meets, parent costumes at meets, volunteering, food drives, etc.
The main goal of this competition is to foster a greater sense of community amongst our swimmers, helping all age groups work together and get to know one another. Summer swim team is about fun just as much as it is about competition, so we wanted to create something that helps every swimmer feel included and involved. Teams will come up with cheers, make posters, and cheer each other on at meets. That being said, The Glider Games are dependent on participation. Please encourage your swimmers to attend and give this competition their all.
Attached to this email are all team assignments. Please communicate to your swimmer what team they are on and which coach will be leading it, this way we can have a smooth start to the games this Tuesday. If you have any questions regarding the games, please reach out!
