    Season Wrap-Up

I cannot believe the season is actually over! This season flew by – 34 practices, 5 intrasquad meets. We didn’t know if this season would even happen, but it turned out to be the most fun I’ve had in my several years as a coach.

As a team, we had 124 swimmers, 601 improved times, and 9 new team records. Our high point winners with 120 points each were Brady Bever (13), Corinne Cook (12), and Josh Nolan (8).

Team spirit was at an all-time high this summer! We had some amazing themed costumes at our meets – IKEA, homemade dolphins, Uncle Sam, hippies, a mini John Travolta, the Joker, Wonder Woman, Swedish Fish – many showcased in an Olympic opening ceremony.

Some practice highlights include obstacle course relays, playing categories, belly flops, frozen t-shirt relays, high jump contests, and lots of inner tubes. We had t-shirt designs submitted, and two were chosen to create our first-ever whole team shirt! Isla McKeag and Mary Alex Seaborn inspired the design! Swimmers were also given a hand-crafted piece of Glen Allen Glider history at the banquet. We loved gifting a unique award for the most unique of seasons!

Of course, we also faced some adversity this summer. We had masked spectators, faulty stopwatches, broken lane lines, no water in the slides, cicadas in the pool, bloody toes and bloody noses, hot water and heat advisories. Most of these created some good laughs afterwards though!

I want to give one last thank you to my assistant coaches, Adam, Maddie S., and Maddie P., who were instrumental in making this season what it was. You all are amazing! To our swim reps, Kristi and Mark, we could not have had this season without you both!

To all of our new and returning Gliders, we hope to see you all back next summer! We will miss you and are already counting down the days to next season!

    Love,

    Coach Kelly
