    Glider Update - 06/15/20

    Gliders!

We've had a great first few days of practice. We worked through some hiccups with the social distancing, but everyone is working hard to remain safe and healthy!

I wanted to provide an update on the season. JRAC, our summer swim league, has postponed indefinitely the virtual meets due to the current phase 2 guidelines. The guidelines were different than most people expected, and have created some difficulties in running meets, even virtually, particularly at pools with 6 lanes. If the phase 2 guidelines change or the state moves to phase 3, the league will revisit the possibility of having meets.

In the meantime, the coaches, Kristi and I have been discussing some options for the Gliders to create some internal competition while having fun and safe. These ideas include some competitions within our team, with time trials (in a meet format), personal goals and some other possibilities. If the league introduces virtual meets later in the season, then we could still participate in those at that time.

Understanding that for some swimmers, the competition is an important part of the Glider experience, we have held off charging families until we had information from the league meeting on what the season would look like. Now that we know that meets against other teams are unlikely at this time, we understand if some families want to drop swim team for the season. If you don't want to continue swimming this season, please let us know by replying to this email by the end of the day on Thursday, June 18. We will be placing the swim team fee on family accounts in MemberSplash starting Friday.

As usual, let us know if you have any questions.

    Mark and Kristi
